Protection of economic interests of Russia in the sea fishery in the Far East (1821–1944).

The article deals with the issues of Frontier Guard activities on protection of national interests of
Russia in the Far East sea areas. Special emphasis is paid to securing sea bioresources against foreign
poaching.

Морская торговля Российско-американской компании с Китаем в 1848–1863 гг.
Рассматривается история морской торговли Российско-американской компании (РАК) с
Китаем, благодаря которой она сумела пережить кризис в середине XIX в. и сохранить китайский
рынок как место сбыта колониальной пушнины. На основе отчетов РАК (часть впервые вводится в
научный оборот), содержащих большой фактический материал и количественные данные,
показано, что прекращение морской торговли связано с падением цен на чай – товар, которым РАК
начала заниматься, и общим упадком компании.

Sea trade of the Russian-American Company with China in 1848–1863. A.N.ERMOLAEV

The history of sea trade of the Russian-American Company (RAC) with China is considered. Due to
sea trade the Russian-American Company was able to go through the crisis in the middle of XIX century and
to save the Chinese market, as the place for selling colonial fur. Based on RAC reports (part of them is
introduced in scientific discussion for the first time) that comprise great actual material and numeric data, it
is shown that the cessation of RAC sea trade is connected with falling prices for tea and the general crisis in
the company.

Анализируется идейно-политическая ориентация представителей китайского милитаризма в

Колонизационные поселки при исправительно-трудовых лагерях
на Дальнем Востоке (1933–1940 гг.)
Рассматривается особый советский пенитенциарный институт – так называемые
колонизационные поселки, организованные при исправительно-трудовых лагерях (ИТЛ) в 1930-е
годы. На базе хранящихся в архивах материалов Байкало-Амурского и Северо-Восточного лагерей,
часть которых впервые вводится в научный оборот, анализируются цели их создания и причины
ликвидации. Показано развитие сети колонизационных поселков на Дальнем Востоке, динамика
численности населения в них, правовое положение колонистов и их семей, характер их трудовой
занятости и хозяйственно-бытового обустройства.

Colonization settlements of the corrective-labour camps in the Far East (1933–1940).

Special soviet penal institution – the so-called colonization settlements, organized under the corrective
labour camps in 1930s is examined in the article. The purposes of its forming and reasons of liquidation are
analyzed on the archives materials of the Baikal-Amur and North-Eastern camps, some of these materials
are putting into scientific use for the first time. The development of colonization settlements in the Far East,
the dynamics of population, legal status of colonists and their families, the character of their employment
and their life conditions are described.

Русские старообрядцы в Северной Америке
Дается краткая история появления первых и последующих миграционных волн русских
старообрядцев в некоторых штатах Северной Америки. Рассматривается процесс адаптации, его
особенности и сложности в условиях принимающей англоязычной среды. Анализируется степень
сохранности религиозной и традиционной русской культуры.

Russian old believers in the North America. Yu.V.ARGUDYAEVA (Institute of History,

The article briefly recounts the history of the first and subsequent migration waves of Russian Old
Believers who chose to settle in some states of the North America. The author focuses on the process of
adaptation with its peculiarities and obstacles, and on religious situation in Old Believers’ community
surrounded by English-speaking environment; she analyzes the extent of preservation of religious and
traditional Russian culture.

Героико-эпические традиции в культуре дальневосточного казачества
(вторая половина XVII–начало XX в.)
Показано, что дальневосточные казаки не только хранили и воспроизводили фольклорные
традиции своей исторической родины, но и создавали новые тексты, в которых давалась оценка
политики расширения государственных границ в восточном направлении. Рассмотрены эпические
сюжеты, появившиеся во второй половине XVII, XIX и начале XX в., а также поздняя воинская
лирика, в которой нашла отражение специфика казачьей службы.

Heroic and epic folklore of the Far Eastern Cossacks (later half of 17th–early 20th centuries).

It is shown that the Far-Eastern Cossacks not only kept and reproduced folklore traditions of their
historical homeland but also created the new epic texts where the eastward expansion of national frontier
was evaluated. This article discusses heroic plots appearing in the later half of 17th, 19th and in the early
20th centuries as well as late war lyrics which reflected a special nature of Cossack service.

Коряки села Тополовка: локальное этническое сообщество
в контексте истории населенного пункта
Рассмотрены современные социальные и этнокультурные характеристики коряков – жителей
с. Тополовка Северо-Эвенского района Магаданской области. Прослежено влияние на их этническую
историю внешних социально-экономических факторов, которые существенно сказались на
развитии оленеводства – традиционного занятия этого локального сообщества. Выявлено
бытование у тополовцев уникальных артефактов, их происхождение объясняет природу новаций в
традиционном обществе.

Koryak from Topolovka village: local ethnic community in the context of built-up area history.

The paper examines the modern social and cultural features of the Koryaks who live in Topolovka
village, North-Evenk Region, Magadan District. The dependence of the Koryak ethnic history on the
external social and economic factors is traced which seriously affected the development of reindeerbreeding traditional occupation of this local ethnic community. The unique ritual things by Koryaks from
Topolovka village are exposed. The origin of these things explains the character of ethnic innovations in the
traditional society.

Традиционный японский костюм в классической литературе
Анализируется взаимовлияние традиционного костюма и классической японской литературы.
Делается вывод, что новый сюжетный декор одежды обусловлен не только классическими
произведениями, но и, в частности, широко распространенными в различных слоях общества
поверьями.

Is analyzed the influence on each other of traditional clothing and the Japanese classic literature. Is
made a conclusion that new clothing design caused not only by classic literature but, in particular, by
beliefs that are widely spread among various strata of society.

Древнейшая керамика: пути технологической инновации
Рассматриваются материалы археологических комплексов с древнейшей в мире керамикой
финала плейстоцена–раннего голоцена в районах Восточной Азии, Северной Африки и Западной
Азии. В каждом районе прослеживается своя специфика становления новой технологии
изготовления керамики, что соответствует модели многолинейности культурно-исторического
процесса.

The most ancient pottery: the ways of technological innovation. I.S.ZHUSHCHIKHOVSKAYA
(Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East, FEB RAS, Vladivostok).
The paper is focused on the archaeological complexes of the most ancient pottery of final Pleistocene
– early Holocene in the regions of East Asia, North Africa and West Asia. The materials of each region
show the specific line of the beginning of new technology in pottery production. These data are
corresponding to the model of multi-linear culture-historical process.

Результаты археологических исследований киданьских городов в Монголии
Анализируются материалы совместной российско-монгольской экспедиции, изучавшей города и
крепости империи Ляо (907–1125) на территории Монголии и составившей их подробную карту. В
2004–2008 гг. выявлена квартальная структура застройки города Чинтолгой балгас, обнаружены
следы пребывания в нем бохайского населения, что подтверждается данными из летописи «Ляо
ши». На Чинтолгой балгасе раскопано несколько жилищ верхнего горизонта с отопительной
системой (кан). Найдено большое количество артефактов, включая керамику, фарфор, украшения,
черепицу, фаунистические остатки. Таким образом, свидетельства проживания бохайцев
обнаружены в монгольских степях – в нескольких тысячах километров от их исторической родины.

Results of archaeological studies of Kitan towns in Mongolia. N.N.KRADIN, A.L.IVLIEV

Materials of joint Russian-Mongolian expedition (2004-2009) studied the fortress settlements and
towns of the Liao Empire (907–1125) in the territory of Mongolia were surveyed. As a result, a detailed map
of all sites of Liao Empire in Mongolia was compiled. In addition, in 2004–2008 the excavations of
Chintolgoi balgas were realized. In 2004–2008 block structure of Chintolgoi balgas city build up was
detected as well as traces of presence of Bohai people that confirmed by data from “Liao shi” annals.
Remains of some dwellings of upper construction horizon of Chintolgoi balgas with heating system (kang)
were unearthed. Many artifacts, including ceramic, porcelain, works of art, tile, and remains of fauna were
found. Thus, traces of Bohai people transferred by their conquerors have been found at thousands kilometers from their motherland, in Mongolian steppes.

Реконструкция застройки городища Кокшаровка-1
геолого-геомагнитными методами
Комплексные геолого-геомагнитные исследования культурного слоя средневекового городища
Кокшаровка-1 (2009 г.) позволили получить уникальную информацию, необходимую для понимания
археологического памятника. Выявлены фундаменты средневековых строительных конструкций,
скрытые в современных геологических отложениях континентальной части Приморья,
реконструированы особенности застройки северо-восточной части городища, установлены районы
добычи и способ транспортировки строительных материалов.

Reconstruction of the features of medieval hillfort building Koksharovka-1 using geological and

Complex geological and geomagnetic researches of the Koksharovka-1 medieval hillfort cultural layer
(2009) allowed getting unique information required for understanding the archeological site. Foundations
of the medieval building constructions hidden in the present continental geological deposits of Primorski
Krai have been reasonably revealed; features of the hillfort buildings in the north-east part have been
reconstructed; areas of taking building materials and transportation ways have been established.

Начальные исследования мастерской по выплавке железа и бронзы на Краснояровском
городище
В научный оборот вводятся материалы, полученные при исследовании металлургической
мастерской (2009 г., Краснояровское городищe), представляющей, по нашему предположению,
часть производственного комплекса по выплавке железа и бронзы. Данный материал дает
возможность поставить вопрос о существовании государственных мастерских по выплавке
металла в столичном городе государства Восточное Ся.

Initial studies of the workshop of iron and bronze smelting at Krasnoyarovskoe ancient

This article is devoted to the preliminary research of metallurgical workshop, that is, essentially, the
industrial complex of iron and bronze melting (Krasnoyarovskoe ancient settlement, 2009). This discovery
affords ground for raising a question about the existence of metal melting state workshops in the capital of
the Eastern Xia state.

Развитие военной организации тунгусо-маньчжуров
(по материалам середины XIX–XX в.)
Рассматриваются особенности традиционных военных знаний тунгусо-маньчжуров – эвенков,
нанайцев, удэгейцев, ульчей, орочей, негидальцев, ороков. Особое внимание уделено причинам
военных конфликтов и значения кровной мести в родовых войнах. Приведены данные по вооружению
охотника, рыболова и воина и элементам военной подготовки. Особое внимание уделяется
шаманизму как части военных знаний.

Development of tungusic-manchurian military organization (on materials of middle 19th–20th

The article focuses on peculiarities of the tungusic-manchurian (Evenk, Nanai, Udege, Ulcha, Oroch,
Negidal, Orok) traditional military knowledges. Particular attention is paid to the reasons of armed conflict
and importance of the blood feud in generic war. In the article the information is presented about arms of
hunter, fisher and warrior and the elements of military training. The focus is on the phenomenon of
shamanism as the part of war knowledge.
