Ethical fashion
Ethical fashion is what is produced with well-paid and fairly treated adult
workers; sustainable fabrics and materials such as organic cotton, hemp, bamboo
and salvageable or recycled materials; low-impact dyes for vegetable fibres or
dyes; respect a healthy environment and product for the farmer, assembler and
wearer of the garment.
We are all responsible for how our lifestyles affect the environment. Simple
steps can be taken to make a big difference by simply changing our purchasing
habits to include products made from low impact materials. Positive pressure on
companies that have not yet decided to voluntarily clean up their act is very easy to
apply, simply by deciding not to spend money on their products and by helping little by little - to develop companies that are clearly engaged in responsible
business practices.
What is great about the rise of the ethical fashion industry is the wide variety
of models, colours, styles, fabrics and sizes that are now available. Long
stigmatized as the cousin of the burlap sack, ethical offerings now focus on design.
Designers with hearts create beautiful, sexy, current, classic, modern, imaginative
and flattering. The ethics just won't be compromised and thankfully the look of
their work won't be compromised either. Reducing our footprint is possible without
any sacrifice.
