Good morning, ladies and gentlemens. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Victoria Koroleva. The purpose of my presentation is to analyze concepts and explore their similarities and differences. To differentiate them and clearly understand where one ends and the other begins. The topic of my presentation is History vs. History. My talk will be divided into 5 parts: First, the meaning of the terms, second: similarities, third: differences, In the fourth part I will give examples, and the fifth part is the conclusion. My talk will take from 5 to 7 minutes After the presentation, I will try to answer any questions you may have. First of all, I would like to tell you about history. History is the most important political, social, and cultural events of the past. The next question is about story. Story is a narrative about a situation that happened to one person or a small group of people. I will now move on to the comparison between a history and a story. Hitory and story have the following similarities: • They have an introduction, a series of events, and a conclusion or outcome. History and story often contain characters who interact and develop. History and story can evoke a variety of emotions in the reader, such as sympathy, fear, anger, and joy. • History and story offer valuable lessons and morals that can shape society. We will now move on to the difference between a history and a story. • A history seeks to objectively recount events in the past • A story narrates events, whether real or imagined. It differs from a story in that it does not necessarily adhere to facts and may include elements of imagination, creativity, and subjectivity. We will now move on to the next part, which presents examples. The Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) was a complex ongoing conflict between the kingdoms of England and France, rooted in territorial disputes and control by the French crown. Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea. This Pulitzer Prize-winning novel tells the story of an aging fisherman, Santiago, and his pursuit of a giant marlin. The story is about perseverance, determination, and man's relationship with nature. Leo Tolstoy's novel «War and Peace» is dedicated to the life of Russian society during the reign of Alexander I. One of the writer's ideas is to show what happened to the Russian people during the crisis, the Patriotic War of 1812. In his voluminous novel, Leo Tolstoy raised several complex topics at once: love, family, war, life and death, and others. This is an example of a story with elements of history. In conclusion, I would like to say that history and story are intersecting concepts, but not similar. History strives for objectivity and accuracy in presenting past events. Its main task is to analyze and interpret facts using evidence and logical methods. And the story can be subjective and emotional, focusing on the personal views and experiences of the author. It can contain elements of fantasy and creativity, which makes it less reliable and incomparable with history. Based on this, the story can contain elements of history, but history cannot contain elements of the story. Okay, I will end my speech here. Thank you for your attention. Any questions?
