Christmas is a religious holiday which
symbolizes the birth of Jesus Christ

Christmas is celebrated all over
the world. The Christmas story
comes from bible.
An angel appeared to shepherds
and told them that a Savior had
been born to Mary and Joseph in a
stable in Bethlehem.
История этого праздника была
описана в Библии. Перед рождением Христа людям явился Ангел
и поведал о рождении человека,
который спасет всех. Матерью его
была Дева Мария, а отцом Жозеф.

Three Wise Men from the East
followed a wondrous star which led
them to the baby Jesus to whom they
paid homage and presented gifts of
gold, frankincense and myrrh.
In abbreviated form, X or x
represents the first letter of Greece
“Χριστός”. The word Christmas is a
contraction of Christ's Mass, derived
from the Old English Cristes mæsse.

Preparing
To Christmas
Британцы празднуют

The British celebrate Christmas
on December 25. They buy gifts
for each other, decorate their
houses with lights and choose
Xmas trees.
Christmas Eve

Santa Claus climbs down the
chimneys of the British houses
and leaves presents under fur-trees
on Christmas Eve, when people
are sleeping.

был Святой Николай. По
английский имя звучит St.Nicholas,
которое затем преобразовалось в
Santa Claus. Святой Николай был
епископом города Миры в IV веке.
Легенда гласит, что он раздавал
деньги бедным людям тайно от
них. Однажды он забрался на
крышу дома и кинул в камин через
трубу кошелек с деньгами.

Christmas Red
Много лет назад, каждый
ребёнок вешал рождественский
носок над камином. Санта
Клаус оставлял там подарки

Socks
Long ago, each child hung a
stocking, or sock, over the fireplace.
Santa entered down the chimney
and left candy and presents inside
the socks for the children. Today
the tradition is carried on.
Christmas' reindeers
Father Christmas' reindeers are
called Rudolph - the leader who
lights the way with his bright red
nose.
Christmas' reindeers are :
Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer,
Vixen, Donder, (also known as
Donner), Blitzen,
Cupid and Comet.
White Christmas
England has only known seven
white Christmases in the entire
twentieth century. According to the
records of the Meteorological
Office in London, snow fell on
Christmas Day only in 1938 and
1976. (The definition of a white
Christmas in England is when one
snowflake falls on the roof of the
London Weather Centre.)

In the morning, English
people open their presents
and then they attend
religious ceremonies at
churches.
Christmas Day
In the afternoon the British may
watch the Queen on television as she

Trafalgar Square where a big Christmas
tree stands.

The Happiest Holiday

In this wonderful day, English
people visit their friends and
relatives. Some groups of the British
walk from house to house and sing
Christmas carols. People give singers
money or invite them for a warm
drink.
Some people, especially young people, like to
celebrate it in cafes and restaurants

But more people prefer to stay at home with the
family on this day

A Christmas Card
The average English
family receives and
sends about 60
CHRISTMAS Cards
The first Christmas card has created in 1794 by
English artist Dobson for his friend. The present
serial card has appeared in 9 of December 1843.
This card was drawn by the artist John Calcott
Horsely by the order of the businessman of sir
Henry Cole , which wanted to congratulate the
grandmother.
On the card size 5x3 of inch represents Christmas
dinner, in which three generations of family
participate, it is possible the relatives of sir Henry.
In total was printed of such 1 thousand cards,
which were sold on 1 shilling. Till now was kept
such 12 cards, one of them was sold for the record
sum.

которых можно увидеть либо Санта
Клауса, либо сцены рождения
Иисуса Христа, либо деревенские
сцены прошлого века со снежными
пейзажами, хотя снег на Рождество
– явление достаточно редкое во
многих частях Великобритании.
Первую рождественскую открытку
нарисовал англичанин Хорслей в
1843 году. 1000 экземпляров
открытки были проданы в тот год в
Лондоне.

Bells
The bell symbolizes guidance and return. It
reminds us that we are all precious in the
eyes of God.
Stars
The star was the heavenly sign
of promises long ago. God
promised a Saviors for the
world, and the star was the sign
of fulfillment of His promise.
A Christmas tree
Предполагают, что первые неукрашенные
Рождественские ели появились в Германии в
VIII веке. Первое упоминание о ели связано
с монахом святым Бонифацием. Бонифаций
читал друидам проповедь о Рождестве.
Чтобы убедить идолопоклонников, что дуб не
является священным и неприкосновенным
деревом, он срубил один из дубов. Когда
срубленный дуб падал, он повалил на своем
пути все деревья, кроме молодой ели.
Бонифаций представил выживание ели как

Christmas decorations
Red and green are the
traditional colour of Christmas.
Green represents the continuance
of life through the winter and the
Christian belief in eternal life
through Jesus. Red symbolizes the
blood that Jesus shed at His
Crucifixion.
Holly
Очень часто дома
украшают ветками
падуба. Глянцевые

и темно-зеленые
листья этого растения хорошо вписываются в общую
рождественскую
палитру.
The Holly, from
ancient times, was
used by people in
Britain to protect their
homes from evil
spirits. Witches and
warlocks, are said to
be deterred from
entering by the holly's
prickly leaves and
also by its reputation
for holiness (the word
"holly" comes from
holy).
The holly plant represents immortality. It
represents the crown
of thorns worn by our
Savior. The red holly
represents the blood
shed by Him.
KISSING UNDER THE MISTLETOE
В дверных проемах вешают ветки
омелы, перевязанные ленточками.
Это особенно нравится влюбленным,
так как по обычаю люди противоположного пола, случайно оказавшиеся под омелой обязаны
поцеловаться.
Christmas Lights
Идеи использовать
электрические гирлянды вместо
восковых свечей принадлежит
английскому телефонисту
Ральфу Моррису. К тому
времени нити электрических
лампочек уже использовались в
телефонных
распределительных щитах.
Моррису лишь пришло в голову
развесить их на елке
