6. I KNOW THE LIVING GOD.
This song is a gift to us from Lena, a thirteen-year old girl on a mission. Last October (2007) I
visited a Christian Rehabilitation Center for two days. Maxim (see #4 above) took me there to
show me how the system that saved him works. Lena is the daughter of Anna Dorofeeva the
director of the Christian drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. Lena and her mother live and
work there 24/7, helping addicts, former thieves, prostitutes, and the homeless transform their
me-first lives into Jesus-centered lives. Her mother is the founder and live-in director of the
center. Lena helps in the gardening, cooking, and cleaning, but also seems to be the chief
computer technician. Her pet is the little pig the center is raising for meat. She plays an important
role in leading addicts to receive Jesus by her enthusiastic praising, hand waiving, and dancing
during the daily devotions. The women patients are beginning to imitate her quite well. The men
are more reserved, but moving to greater freedom and joy. Lena selected and put together this
album by her favorite singer Victor Sushko. I think this song best represents her faith and joy. It
models the message she and her mother are trying to plant in the minds of the center’s patients.
Victor Sushko was a popular and well-know singer in Sochi and the resorts along the Black Sea.
But for seventeen years he was a narcotic addict. The story is that he turned to Christ after eight
of his buddies died in one month of overdoses or suicide. Now he sings of salvation for all!
